A federal judge in Miami has dismissed with prejudice Donald Trump's defamation lawsuit against The Wall Street Journal over its report on a birthday letter to Jeffrey Epstein, meaning the case cannot be filed again. The judge ruled that the president had not shown the paper acted with actual malice. Trump's lawyers said they would keep fighting, and an appeal is expected.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio says he briefly discussed with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov the possibility of Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin talking at the APEC summit in Shenzhen, China, on 18-19 November. Speaking at the G20 meeting in Atlanta, Rubio also said international interest is growing in a limited ceasefire in the Black Sea to protect grain and energy shipments, but he remains sceptical about a negotiated peace.
