Privacy policy
This policy explains what personal data Today News Brief (todaynewsbrief.com, “we”) processes when you visit the website, subscribe to the newsletter or contact us, and what rights you have under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
1. Who is responsible
The data controller is Today News Brief, operated from Romania. Contact: [email protected]
2. Data we process
- Technical data: when you load a page, our hosting and security provider Cloudflare processes your IP address, browser type, the page requested and similar request data to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.
- Audience statistics: we use Cloudflare Web Analytics, a privacy-first service that does not use cookies or fingerprinting and gives us only aggregated figures (page views, referring sites, country, device type).
- Newsletter: if you subscribe, we store your email address with our email provider Resend and use it only to send you the Today News Brief newsletter. You can unsubscribe at any time with the link in every email; your address is then marked as unsubscribed.
- Messages you send us: if you email us, we use your address and message only to reply and keep the correspondence as long as needed.
- Preferences on your device: your language, light/dark theme and notification-prompt choices are saved in your browser's local storage, and a short-lived first-party cookie (tnb-country, 1 hour) stores your country code so we can show the site in the right language. They are not used for tracking.
- Browser notifications: only if you allow them in your browser; you can revoke the permission in your browser settings at any time.
3. Advertising (Google AdSense)
We use or may use Google AdSense to show advertising. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites.
Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to our visitors based on their visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet. These partners may also use similar technologies such as web beacons and local storage, and process data such as your IP address and device identifiers.
How Google uses information from sites that use its services: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites
You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google's Ads Settings: adssettings.google.com
You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' personalised advertising at: www.youronlinechoices.eu
Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are asked for consent through a Google-certified consent management platform (IAB Transparency & Consent Framework) before cookies are used for personalised advertising. If you do not consent, Google may show non-personalised or limited ads. You can review or withdraw your choice at any time via the “Privacy settings” link in the footer (shown when ads are active) or by clearing your cookies.
4. Embedded content and widgets
Videos from YouTube (privacy-enhanced youtube-nocookie.com) and Facebook load only after you click play; from then on, those services may process your data under their own policies. The weather and exchange-rate widget is loaded by your browser from Open-Meteo and Frankfurter, and some photos are served from Wikimedia Commons or Unsplash, which therefore receive your IP address.
5. Legal bases
- Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR): newsletter, advertising cookies, browser notifications.
- Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR): operating, securing and measuring the website in aggregate, answering your messages.
6. Service providers and transfers
Our providers — Cloudflare (hosting, security, analytics), Resend (newsletter email) and Google (advertising) — process data on our behalf or as independent controllers. Some of them may process data outside the EU, including in the United States, under safeguards such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
7. How long we keep data
Newsletter addresses are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. Emails are kept as long as needed to handle your request. Technical logs and analytics are kept by Cloudflare for limited periods under its own retention rules. Advertising cookie lifetimes are set by Google and its partners and are shown in the consent message.
8. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectify and erase your data, to restrict or object to processing, to data portability and to withdraw consent at any time (without affecting earlier processing). To exercise them, email [email protected]. You also have the right to complain to the Romanian data protection authority, ANSPDCP (www.dataprotection.ro), or to the authority in your country.
9. Children
Today News Brief is a general news site and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect their personal data.
10. Changes
We may update this policy, for example when ads go live or a provider changes. The date at the top shows the latest version. See also our Cookie policy.
