Manchester United suffered one of the most humiliating nights in their European history on Wednesday, losing 4-1 to Como in the Champions League. Head coach Michael Carrick apologised to the 700 travelling fans and faced questions about his future, while captain Bruno Fernandes publicly questioned the staff's decision not to press man to man. Carrick replied that whatever the tactics, a team that does not run forward and back will not win.

In Munich, Declan Rice scored a late equaliser to earn Arsenal, the Premier League champions, a 2-2 draw with Bayern. Eberechi Eze, who came on after Bukayo Saka limped off in the 10th minute, opened the scoring, and Harry Kane, who even took a goal-kick to launch an attack, again shone for Bayern. Mikel Arteta said Saka's quadriceps injury "does not look good at all".

Elsewhere, Real Madrid beat RB Leipzig 4-1 for a third straight win, Aston Villa kept their perfect start with a 3-1 win over Viking, Inter beat Shakhtar Donetsk 1-0 despite playing with ten men, and Galatasaray won 4-2 at Lille. Club Brugge beat Lens 3-0, Real Betis edged Feyenoord 1-0 and LASK won 3-2 at Sporting.

On Tuesday, Liverpool came from behind to beat Villarreal 4-3 and Manchester City thrashed AEK Athens 5-1.
