Arsenal needed only one shot on target to beat Nottingham Forest 1-0 at the City Ground on Sunday. After 80 frustrating minutes, substitute Noni Madueke, who had replaced Eberechi Eze at half-time, cut in from the left and shot; the ball deflected off Jair Cunha and wrong-footed goalkeeper Matz Sels. The win takes the champions to 18 points, three behind Premier League leaders Manchester City, while Forest drop into the relegation zone and are still waiting for their first home league goal of the season.

Brighton produced the performance of the day, thrashing arch-rivals Crystal Palace 5-0 and matching their record win over them, set in 1956. An own goal by Jaydee Canvot started it, and Diego Gómez then scored from the halfway line, 51 metres out, the longest-range Premier League goal since Wayne Rooney's for Everton in 2017. Yasin Ayari, Charalampos Kostoulas and substitute Jack Hinshelwood completed the rout. Palace manager Pierre Sage, whose side have conceded more goals than anyone else in the league, said his feeling after the game was 'shame'. Elsewhere, Manchester United's winless run stretched to six games after a draw at Leeds.

In Spain, Real Madrid beat Sevilla 4-1 at the Bernabéu. Arda Güler opened the scoring with a first-time strike before Kylian Mbappé added a superb solo goal and then a penalty he had won himself. Manuel Bueno pulled one back for Sevilla, but Yan Diomande, standing in for the suspended Vinícius Júnior, sealed it. José Mourinho's side move up to third, one point behind Atlético and six behind leaders Barcelona.

In Italy, Lazio stunned Juventus 3-0 in Turin with goals from Oliver Provstgaard, Gustav Isaksen and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru. Gennaro Gattuso's team are now level with Cristian Chivu's Inter on 19 points at the top of Serie A, with Roma, also unbeaten, third on 17. In Scotland, Celtic hammered Hearts 7-1.
